After the big closure and the push to re-open we’re so excited to finally be showing you our newest disk sets and our new cookie press!
As I said in our re-opening post (read it for some quick background info 😉 ), the downtime while my daughter was ill allowed us to really think about what changes would make Impress! even better than before. Our own needs and years of customer feedback went into our thoughts. Our first decision was an easy one.
The Impress! Cookie Press and our new Disk Size
We decided to finally offer a press of our own and make all of our disks designed mainly to fit our press. It’s been hard offering an “aftermarket” disk product with so many different presses out there! Offering our own press that our disks are designed to fit helps us and our customers. By doing this we could eliminate the troublesome “what disk size do I need?” question.
After a LOT of trial and error a disk size was chosen that fit not just our press but as many others as possible, including nearly everything that our former “size M” fit. A “universal” disk size turned out to be impossible, as the size gap is just too great among some of the top brands in presses. As size M was by far our most requested size, it made sense to stick with something compatible with that. On our website and on Amazon we have a list of presses that we know the new disks do and do not fit.
We knew disk thickness was sometimes an issue for people, so we decided to start using only the thinner white material we’d always offered as an option. We hope you’ll all be as happy with the change as we are! I have to admit I’ll miss baking with and photographing the sparkling clear disks, but the change was worth it.
Now about our press!
It is a classic style that’s been around for years. Our original 2014 disks were designed and tested on this style of press. While there are many companies making variations on this theme, they are definitely not all created equal. Some are of exquisite quality. Others? Not so much. We searched for a manufacturer that would produce to our quality standards. I wanted smooth rings that didn’t grind and weren’t a pain in the rear to attach. I wanted a gliding lever for the handle that gave great leverage and control. I wanted it to be made of aluminum because I, like many of you, have some pain issues and a heavy press made baking far less fun. I prefer fully-threaded rings that screw on tight instead of the push-on quarter turn versions that can break or pop off under pressure.
The result of my fastidiousness: a press made of lightweight metals with a beautiful high gloss aluminum barrel, so it’s easy to clean and light in your hands. Top and bottom rings that have a smooth, gliding movement for easy assembly, refilling, and disk changing. A lever with a smooth motion that’s easy to operate.
And hey, even if our disks don’t sparkle anymore, the press sure does. 🙂
Already have a press? Or one that fits our old size P disks? It’s always a great idea to have a backup, especially during the busy baking holidays! Our press is a good value for the money. It’s priced so you’re getting a set-and-a-half of disks (by our usual 8 disk set standard) included and only five dollars more for the press itself. We know some of you with size P-fitting presses will be affected by our new disk size, so we really tried to make the press disks exciting and fresh and the press a good value.
Our New Disk Sets & Set Changes
All of our disks now come in sets of 8. All of the old 7 sets now have a new disk! A few sets that were never big sellers were discontinued, but some of their most popular disks were moved into other sets. We are so sorry that he individual disks won’t be available anymore. They simply were not a financially feasible option. One of the biggest changes is the consolidation of the two snowflakes sets into one. We took what were far and away the most popular eight of the original twelve and combined them. I listed the other set changes at the bottom.
The Box Set
Knowing how popular our animal shapes are we included 6 in the box. I had so much fun designing the bluebird/songbird and decorating it with pearlescent dust! I’m imagining all the different songbirds I could create with that shape. The bunny has a huge fluffy tail, and the kitty cat has been a steady request. I love the shape of the new butterfly. I tried to make it as delicate and cute as possible. The gecko, always one of our best sellers, moved over from the discontinued Southwest Set. The Dachshund/Small Dog came over from the Dogs Set (it was a nine disk set, now 8). I think the stars of this group are the new Fancy Christmas Tree, with its draped, fuzzy-looking “branches” and Snowflake 13- a brand new super pointy, frilly-looking snowflake. The rest of the set is rounded out by the new teardrop leaf and our own uniquely designed versions of a few classics: a sunflower, double daisy, and serrated heart. We hope you like the variety in this “sampler” kind of set!
Kitty Cat, Serrated Heart, Double Daisy. Bluebird/Songbird, Teardrop Leaf, Dachshund/Small Dog, Gecko, Sunflower, Fancy Christmas Tree, Snowflake 13, Delicate Butterfly, and Sitting Bunny.

Princess and Fairy Tales
Jill said we needed tiaras. So I made a tiara and a whole set to go with it! Frog, Horse, Carriage, Dress/Gown, Tiara/Crown, Castle, Magic Wand, and Dragon.
Woodland
We are from Colorado, so mountains, woodland critters, and pine trees are near and dear to our hearts. This set is a re-imagining of our “Mountain/Cabin” Set. We hope you like it as much as we do! Pine Cone, Squirrel, Raccoon/fox, Moose Head, Fawn, Owl 2, Porcupine/Hedgehog, and Rustic Tree.
Dinosaurs and Fossils
We thought the dinos needed a makeover, too, and some new dino friends! Ammonite, Brontosaurus, Triceratops, Pterodactyl, T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Woolly Mammoth, and Trilobite.
Unicorns & Rainbows
Those of you who have read my blogs for years know I’m bonkers about rainbows. My prisms in my kitchen have scattered splashes of color in my dough pictures many times! Only fitting that I combined rainbows with my other favorite, unicorns, and make this bright new set. Shooting Star, Rainbow with Clouds, Unicorn, Rainbow Heart, Sun, Unicorn Head, Rainbow, and Half Rainbow Cloud.
Celebrate!
This one was already in the works right before we closed. Lots of ways to celebrate in here! Medal, Awareness Ribbon, Blue Ribbon, Plaque/Banner, Balloons, Graduation Cap, Scroll, #1.
The old sets that have changes are:
Beach & Nautical has a new flip flops disk. Palm Tree, Sail Boat, Clown Fish, Crab, Seahorse, Dolphin, Flip Flops, and Anchor.
Flowers now has Rose 2 (from the formerly 9 disk Wedding Set) and a new Daisy/Aster. These replace the Iris and Orchid. Carnation, Daisy/Aster, Tulip, Daffodil, Pansy, Rose 2, Petunia, and Lily/Poinsettia (see my Holly Leaves & Poinsettias post on this blog!)
Halloween gained the owl from the old Mountain/Cabin set. I had used it in my Chocolate Halloween Cookies Blog (on here) and LOVED how it looked with spooky eyes! So now it’s “Spooky Owl”. 😉 Witch Hat, Pumpkin, Spider, Ghost, Spooky Owl, Arched Cat, Jack-O-Lantern, and Bat.
Leaves & Trees gained the 2 cactus disks from the discontinued Southwest Set. Blooming Cactus, Acorn, Aspen Leaf, Maple Leaf, Deciduous Tree, Dogwood Leaf, Oak Leaf, and Saguaro.
Music has a new sharp disk. Alto Clef, Piano Keys, Treble Clef, Guitar, Eighth Note, Beamed Eighth Note, Bass Clef and Sharp.
Patriotic & Fourth of July has a new Uncle Sam Hat disk. Star, Number 4, Firework, Flag, Eagle, USA, Semicircular Banner, & Uncle Sam Hat.
Sports has a Jersey/Shirt and Hockey Stick. Volley Ball, Basketball, Soccer Ball, Baseball, Football, Pom Poms, Jersey/Shirt and Hockey Stick.
All of our packaging has been redesigned, and even some sets that didn’t have any disk changes got a new look, like the Winter Set. We thought Penguin needed a makeover, too.
We’re happy to be back and tremendously grateful for all of your warm wishes for this business, for Jill and I personally, and especially for Susie’s daughter as we weathered her illness. Thank you!

I’m disappointed that you’ll no longer sell single discs. I already own 33 so having to purchase sets would give me many duplicates. But I understand it from a business point of view, and I’m glad you’ve been able to reopen (and that your daughter’s health is better).

Thanks Kathy. We understand how you guys feel, too. We’ve tried so hard over the years to keep selling them but you can imaging the cost of selling many $2 items. The time, the cost… it was not a good business option. Thanks for the care for my daughter. Above all else, that comes first. And I’m glad to be back at work. I missed it. Thanks so much for your business and if you have any other questions email us at doughwoes@impressbakeware.com and we can help. Maybe email me what you have and we can see if there are any leftover individuals that might help you out. There are a small number laying around. 😉 We really try to take care of our customers who’ve been with us over the years. We appreciate you! ~Susie

Could you please show the inside of the press? I’ve been looking at purchasing my first cookie press, but plastic parts is a deal breaker for me (even top of the line models like the Marcato Biscuit has a plastic plunger).
I really wish you made metal disks instead of plastic ones. Saying that you use BPA free materials does not give me peace of mind since there are many other plastics that have the same estrogen mimicking chemicals in them that haven’t received the bad press that BPA has.

Hello c. Metal disks are far out of our price range. The dies to punch them are extremely expensive and would make hundreds of shapes impossible financially. Our press is very similar to the excellent Marcato and has plastic in the same places. The only metal plunger I have ever seen is in my very old Mirro twist press. I can’t recall if the Pampered chef twist has a metal plunger it might. Most modern presses use silicone plungers as they are flexible. I understand your concerns, sorry to disappoint you.
