Looking forward to cozy Holiday baking? Us too! Baking is soothing, creative, and fun. We’ve added two new pins for you to play with! Let the patterns shine for themselves or jazz them up with edible luster dust paint! There are many recipes with painting tutorials on this blog site.

Fall leaves

I am thrilled with how this pin turned out! Sunflowers dot the landscape every fall with their bright sunny faces, and the roadsides and hiking trails here in Colorado are graced with my favorite – darling purple tansy asters! I incorporated both into this pin, along with some other fall favorites. This is a beauty-packed pin that makes outstanding cookies!

Sledding Penguins

This is a whimsical, fun pin. Bring on the baking giggles with these adorable sledders! I thoroughly enjoyed designing it and really tried to make these cute little buggers look like they were having fun!

NOTE: These are one of the trikiest pin designs to paint, so if you want to try it just be patient, use fine-tipped brushes, put on a podcast or music and have a nice slow zen time with it. Paint the white parts first, let them dry completely, then add the black. That keeps the colors from blending. Again, there’s plenty of painting tutorials on this site. We sell a great brush set on our website and Etsy shops.

For BOTH of these pins, just like the Bees pin in June, they have tight, intricate designs and roll better with my new flour method instead of my usual oil method. It’s so easy!

Both pins come with these new instructions in their packaging.

Here’s how I described it in the Bees annoouncement:

While you should initially “season” this pin when you get it with mineral (butcher block) or vegetable oil, you won’t want to oil it for rolling like I recommend for the other pins.

Instead, when you use it to roll dough follow a really simple two step process!  Start by creating a log of dough that’s about the width that you want, then flatten it out with your hands a bit. Put the waxed paper on top and roll the dough flat to 1/4″ thick. (Using flour at this step will make the cookies tougher and the dough stiffer as you roll and re-roll, since you would be flouring it twice – flat then embossed – with each roll. Don’t do it! Use the wax paper. It’s clean, easy, and quick, and doesn’t over-flour the dough.)

Remove the waxed paper and lightly but thoroughly dust the top surface of the slab of dough with flour. This method works much better on this particular pin, and prevents the honeycombs from sticking to the deep cuts in the pin! They release much cleaner when rolled with flour. You can also lightly dust the pin for extra non-stick.

September always marks thebeginning of “High Season” for us here at Impress. The Holidays are coming soon and everyone starts baking! I hope you all love these additions to our lineup as much as we do.

Happy Baking!
